Hello All!
I'm finally getting up and running with this blog!! My professional goal for this year is to use anecdotal records weekly to improve student learning and plan future lessons. I will also use my anecdotal records to pull students into strategy groups based on their needs. I am hoping that this professional goal will help me keep on track of student needs and improve their reading, writing, and math. This goal falls under the planning and preparation domain under assesses student learning. I feel that over the last few years I have gotten better at keeping assessment data, but I would like to become better at actually using that data to guide my instruction and really key in on what is working and what is not working for students who are struggling.

  1. I have really liked the strategy groups and I am seeing the true value of teaching based on their needs. I have been using the Cafe book to follow their leads on what types of groups to make. I have also used the DRA and some summary and information I received from there to make groups.
How else are you making strategy groups? I would really like to use what I found out based on MAP scores. Did you ever print out the data and use that information?

  2. Sorry Joy! I'm just reading your comment now. No, I never printed any MAP scores, just because we don't have any for first graders yet. Last year, Kristin and I started to dive in a little bit to that data, but sometimes it is so overwhelming that it is hard to break down what their needs really are. Any suggestions? Have you tried picking through any of that data to plan strategy groups?

  3. Welcome, Angela! Sounds like you two are working on similar goals with different age groups. Looking forward to the conversation!
